Reading has a cultural history of artists, musicians and performers but these are often working without funds in the independent sector with little resources for marketing, development and involvement with the community. The work is often disparate and is often underground without engaging with a wider audience. The arts can play a large part in developing the cultural identity of Reading and providing an enriched community working together and seeing Reading in a different way.

Reading is the Gallery is a year long project celebrating the arts, the key idea behind the project is that art isn't limited to "gallery style' viewing, they pop up in unusual spaces and in different ways. The idea is that the space "Reading" will be open to all, you don't have to "understand' art, there are no boundaries to come along, join in, listen and view. A workshop programme will develop opportunities for community involvement and the project will continue the legacy of Arts for Reading
