    Situation

The Belgrade’s Community & Education Company present The New Black Showcase. Adding volume to the city’s newest voices . . . a fearsome beast is lurking in the bush, and it threatens the serenity of a Nigerian village; . . . A journalist writing an article about serial killers is confronted by someone from her past, but who is he? what is he? and how does he know her by ‘that’ name? . . . growing up in an urban environment, a young man grapples with the notion that it may be braver to walk away from physical conflict than to meet it head on . . . Above are just a few of the stories finding their way out of the imaginations and experiences of Coventry’s diverse communities, and onto the Belgrade’s stage. The Belgrade has been working intensively with the city’s Black and Minority ethnic communities to give a voice to their experiences. This work has included playwriting courses, youth theatre and developing performances inspired by the Qur’an. The Showcase is a celebration of this work. Come and support up-and-coming talent from the city’s newest arrivals, and push the boundaries of what it means to be from Coventry.
