Following the huge success of the first Beached Art in June 2008 we need to secure funding to enable this wonderful event to develop and take place each year. Beached Art saw people from all walks of life and ages come together in one day.

    Situation

Beached Art has proven to be a wonderful event that brings the generations together in a fun, relaxed and educational day. It truely was great to see everyone coming together on the beach, irrespective of age or background. The older generation reminiscing about playing in the sand (and then deciding to take part). Alongside teenagers who came down possibly to poke fun instead making their own sand art (and enjoying doing it). We would love to be able to run the event on an annual basis. Please help us to do this by donating money so that we can run Beached Art in summer 2010. Deprivation in Cumbria is concentrated particularly around the west coast and the area is included in some of the most deprived areas of the UK. So it is important to us that we only charge a nominal amount of £1 per person to take part. But this means that the event will run at a loss so it is vital that we secure funding. Activities that will take place on the day include: · Art and craft workshops for all ages. Focussing around the marine and coastal habitats and wildlife. · Sand sculpture/ beach art demonstration by professional artists. · Sand sculpture/ beach art competition by the general public. · Guided walks and rockpool rambles so people may gain further knowledge of the coastal habitat and the wildlife. · Guided porpoise spotting events. · Story telling. In 2008 it was wonderful to sea a beach full of people enjoying themselves. Teenagers, twenty-somethings, young families, working professionals, students and retired people all enjoying this event. Unfortunately not something you now see every day... but hopefully an event that we can place firmly in the calendar for years to come. Please help us to do this.
