    Situation

Volatile substance abuse is the deliberate inhalation of the chemicals found in everyday products such as deodorant, hairspray and cigarette lighter refills. 6% of 11-15 year old children admit using volatile substances and it is an abuse that can kill instantly. Over the past 25 years VSA has killed more young people under the age of 19 than any other drug. Our experience shows that education is the best means of prevention. Our goal is to provide every maintained secondary school in the UK with a VSA Awareness Day resource pack. It will provide a flexible starter pack of age-appropriate activities, posters, stickers, a teacher’s guide and a ‘How to handle VSA in your school’ supplement. This will be provided in an update-able folder so new activities, information, competitions and more can be added for VSA Day annually. Creating and printing these resources: £20,000 Distribution of the resources: £8,500 VSA Day website with additional downloadables: £3,000
