Situation

Cyclone Idai has swept through Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, destroying almost everything in its path, causing devastating floods, killing and injuring thousands of people, and destroying homes and crops. Houses, roads and bridges have been destroyed and agricultural land is completely submerged. The full scale of the disaster is still unfolding as search and rescue operations continue and more heavy rain is predicted. Thousands of people are at risk of malaria, cholera and other diseases.

Solution

Our teams are currently assessing needs and planning an immediate emergency response in Malawi. We will supply essential items such as cooking utensils, mosquito nets, soap and other materials, including plastic sheeting, to provide immediate shelter. We will be building emergency latrines and showers and training people in emergency health and hygiene protocols in the temporary relief camps. We will be providing extensive cash transfers to assist affected families in the recovery.
