Situation
On the 20th February the UN and the South Sudanese Government jointly announced that 100,000 people in Unity State are facing starvation, with one million more on the brink of famine. We are seeing first-hand the impact of this hardship in the Samaritan's Purse field office in Unity State, South Sudan. Men, women and children are suffering and beginning to lose thier lives due to lack of food and clean water.
Solution
Samaritan's Purse UK is currently working to rehabilitate wells and drill new boreholes, providing access to clean water for 35,000 people in Unity State. Dirty, potentially life-threatening water is the only option available to many who are forced to settle in places where there are no functioning wells. With drilling equipment already on the ground and trained teams available, we are uniquely positioned to provide clean water and help prolong the lives of these vulnerable people.
