“Our home has been destroyed by the cyclone. We lost everything. Nothing is left.”
Cyclone Idai could be the worst weather-related disaster to ever strike the southern hemisphere. Thousands of people are in desperate need of help. There have been 150 deaths reported so far across Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi and that figure is expected to rise significantly in the coming days. Flash flooding and rising water levels are now putting even more lives at risk. It’s a race against time to stop more lives from being lost.
CARE is already on the ground in all three countries affected. We’ve already sent 13 trucks to the cyclone-affected area with vital items including 500 tents, 200 rolls of plastic sheeting and rope for temporary shelter, 2,800 family kits and over 2,000 hygiene and family packages containing soap, mosquito nets, water canisters and blankets. We’re doing as much as we can but without your help, we may not be able to reach everyone who needs us.
