On Friday 8 November, Typhoon Haiyan swept through the Philippines, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. MapAction is working around the clock to help coordinate the relief effort, so people get the humanitarian aid they need. We are appealing for donations to support this vital work.

    Situation

The scale of the disaster is unthinkable. It is feared that some 10,000 people may have died in one province alone. Official estimates are that more than 9.6 million people have been affected. Many have lost loved ones and everything they own. They have no food, clean water, medicine or shelter. Bodies have been left in the fields and by the sides of roads. The challenge for responders is to understand what the priority needs are and how to meet them.

    Solution

MapAction is helping to solve this problem by working alongside the United Nations to create a common operational picture from which responders can work. We are collating and sharing critical information about the scale of the disaster and its impact, so survivors get the aid they need as quickly as possible.
