Every day, young people’s lives are changed by the Spear programme as they overcome real challenges to start their careers. We want to reach more young people in 2019 by opening a new centre and helping some of the most vulnerable members of our society back into work or education.

Situation
Despite reports of unemployment being at an all-time low, unemployment amongst young people is 3 times higher than the national average. We work with societies' most vulnerable young people, with over 90% facing significant barriers to finding sustainable employment or education, including criminal records, low education attainment and mental health issues.
Solution
Spear is a 1yr programme helping unemployed 16-24 year olds at risk of social exclusion overcome disadvantage to find employment. Our coaches take a holistic approach, working on CVs and interview practice, but also attitude and soft skills to bring about mindset change (such as resilience, managing emotions and persevering through challenges). We work with businesses to help young people access job opportunities and over 75% of those who complete Spear remain in work or education a year later.
