Magic Breakfast

No child too hungry to learn

Magic Breakfast believes that no child should be too hungry to learn. We provide healthy breakfasts to 480 UK schools where hunger acts as a hindrance to learning. Through this project we will support 17 schools, feed 1,139 hungry children each day and provide 222,105 breakfasts in a year.

In the UK, 1 in 5 children in a classroom of 30 live in poverty, and each day half a million children arrive at school too hungry or malnourished to learn. A hungry child cannot concentrate and is more likely to be restless, unhappy, lethargic or disruptive. Teachers tell us that the most important lessons are taught in the morning, so pupils risk on missing out on 4 hours of learning every day and not reaching their potential, simply because they don’t have access to breakfast.

Our collaboration with the Institute for Fiscal Studies and Education Endowment Foundation demonstrated that Magic Breakfast clubs lead to two months’ academic progress over the course of a year for an otherwise hungry child. This project will provide expert support and vital food aid to 17 schools in disadvantaged areas, feeding up to 1,139 children every school day with a healthy and nutritious breakfasts. In this way, we will ensure that no child faces hunger as a barrier to learning.
