    Situation

Drama sits outside the remit of the primary curriculum and as a result many young people have not had the opportunities to experience live theatre. Government statistics indicate primary school pupils in Nottingham fall below the national average. The Sutton Trust highlights attainment gaps between the most deprived and advantaged schools, boys regularly lower in attainment. Standards are not high enough at the end of Year 6 and some pupils leave the school without basic skills in writing.

    Solution

We aim to break down barriers and make Shakespeare accessible and fun, by presenting an inventive and inclusive high quality professional live performance in a range of school and library settings, supported by an holistic and practical creative workshop targeting reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Developed with input from teachers, sessions can also contribute to transition the framework linking secondary schools with their feeder primaries through joint creative activity.
