Kianjai is a rural community that has recently suffered from drought. Consequently peasant farmer incomes have been very low for several years.Often struggling to feed and cloth themselves, many families are unable to pay the fees for secondary and polytechnic education. This is particularly the case for single parents/disabled parents. There are also many orphans in the community who need additional support. Without support these children drop out and face a future of hardship with little hope.
For the last 2 years we have worked closely with the local community to distribute funds to ensure they achieve maximum benefit. Our fund gives disadvantaged familes hope that their child can gain an education and go on to earn a living. Sponsorship is not based on academic levels, but on the level of family hardship. We support a child from primary plus children that are in danger of dropping out of sec. education can be subsidised from 25% to 100% depending circumstances to ensure they finish.
