Mind’s network of 168 local Minds provide services to people with mental health problems across the UK. Sadly in today’s climate, funding is scarce. Our idea is to create a fund for local Minds to support projects such as training schemes that allow people to play a positive role in their community

    Situation

Each week in the UK over 250,000 people visit their doctor about a mental health problem and tragically over 100 people take their own lives. In the last year 86% local Minds reported rising demand for their services. A recent survey showed local Minds (who secure their own funding) are under serious threat and could suffer cuts of £4 million, affecting 12,000 service users a year. Vital services could be slashed and people in mental distress will not get help at a time that they need it most.

    Solution

Our Fund would finance approximately 5 local projects in England and Wales. As a result over 500 people in need will receive specialist mental health support such as counselling services, art and horticultural therapy, financial capability surgeries and housing support. The services will help meet the growing demand for mental health services nationwide. And since the initiatives have been designed by local Minds, they respond directly to the needs of local communities.
