Relocating to Westminster will transform Liberty work for generations to come. Building on the success of recent years, this project will propel Liberty and its award-winning policy, campaigning, media and legal work to the very heart of the UK's legislative and judicial power.

    Situation

Liberty has been protecting rights and freedoms in the UK for over 75 years. With the UK's complicity in torture, and threats to privacy, free speech, fair trials and peaceful protest in the news daily, Liberty's work is far from over. Liberty's home in south-east London is now unsuitable for that of a modern, multi-disciplinary campaigning body. All of the offices are small and crowded, and - even with a relatively small staff - there is little room to host volunteers or hold meetings.

    Solution

The Civil Liberties Trust has identified a modest, practical building in Westminster which will be an ideal headquarters for Liberty for decades to come. It will enable: -many more skilled volunteers; -a location for NGOs and human rights lawyers to meet and share learning; -a drop-in location for MPs, and journalists seeking up-to-date briefings on key issues; -a library and media centre; -space to host educational workshops, campaign launches, press conferences and other events.
