Jamie’s Farm supports 1,350 vulnerable children each year who are at risk of exclusion. Research has indicated there are 43,000 children in need of an intervention like Jamie’s Farm. As such, we feel compelled to extend our reach and need financial support to set up our fourth farm in East Sussex.

Situation

35 children are excluded from school each day; only 1% get good GCSEs needed to access post-16 training/apprenticeships; 1 in 2 have a recognised mental health problem and excluded children go on to make up the majority of the prison population. We know that when children are not engaged with education it is difficult to see their potential as successful people, often spiralling into trouble. At Jamie’s Farm, we offer a unique, preventative solution to empower young people to change course.

Solution

Jamie’s Farm reduces exclusion by boosting self-esteem, and improving behaviour and engagement in 11-16 year olds. During a 5-day farm residential and follow-up programme, children are given real jobs with tangible outcomes, such as farming, gardening, cooking and horse work, alongside therapeutic 1:1s to set them on a new path. Research has shown there are many more young people Jamie’s Farm could be helping across the country. Our fourth farm will help us reach an additional 500 each year.
