We aim to help the often side-lined siblings of children with serious or life-limiting illness at our unique Therapeutic Recreation Camps. Our Sibling Camps are designed to build confidence & self-esteem, increase resilience and introduce them to other children who face the same challenges.

Situation

Siblings of seriously ill children often experience very low confidence and self-esteem. They miss out on school trips, play dates and time with their parents who are busy with sick siblings. They tend to be isolated from their peers and withdrawn. Many feel lonely, anxious, sad and a strong sense of guilt. Most of the siblings we support have caring responsibilities themselves which many find overwhelming; they miss out on a carefree childhood and they have to grow up faster than their peers.

Solution

Sibling Camps offer children an opportunity to feel ‘normal’ and enjoy new challenges and activities in a fun & supportive environment. They get a break from the pressures & constraints of life at home and meet others who ‘get’ what they are going through. Through participation in a wide range of social, creative & physical activities, the children are encouraged to achieve tailored goals & challenges and to build confidence and self-esteem whilst learning new coping strategies to use at home.
