Situation

Disadvantaged children, young people with disabilities, families unused to live theatre – all are welcomed to the Unicorn. To make each visit as warm and undaunting as possible, we have teamed up with Quentin Blake to fill our foyer with theatrical characters. We will extend our work with Quentin Blake into the classroom with an art project designed for children aged 4 – 19 years, which will explore the theme of ‘a first visit to the theatre’ and deepen our relationships with schools.

Solution

The campaign will raise monies to support taking professional artists into deprived schools to work on an art project to engage children in designing characters inspired by Quentin Blake’s mural. In addition it will raise the monies needed to install the mural by offering donors an opportunity to be linked with an original artwork which will animate our foyer and provide a unique welcome to young people making their first and subsequent visits to the Unicorn.
