  • ‚ÄúWe‚Äôve been running AYG for low attaining pupil premium students when they were in years 7 and 8. Both years their improvement has been better than that of the non-pupil premium students and I believe that AYG is largely responsible for this.‚Äù

Situation

AYG is our response to recent changes in the education system leading to the introduction of the EBaac (which contains no arts subjects) and an average 8% budget cut in schools across the UK. As more schools adopt the EBaac and respond to cuts, the arts will be squeezed out of the curriculum and extra-curricular activities risking a two-tier system where those from underprivileged backgrounds continue to be deprived access to a creative education and/or career.

Solution

We want to address this inequality and help make arts education accessible for all.‚Ä® We will achieve this by working with each partnering school to improve their arts education provision and make the arts more accessible to their students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds, eligible for Pupil Premiums funding, or with Special Educational Needs. We will deliver a series of workshops combining music with acting, directing, writing and movement to develop essential transferable skills.
