Situation

Twenty years of war has left many communities in Northern Uganda ravaged by hunger, disease and AIDS/HIV. Paorinher provides care and education for 700 orphaned and vulnerable children and supports over 700 rural households living with HIV with its outreach program. Funding services and delivering basic nutrition and medication to its beneficiaries is an increasing challenge that threatens the Centre's operation.

Solution

The 240-acre farm and service centre being built will provide sustainable food security, as well as earned income (sale of surplus) so that Paorinher can expand its facilities and services for orphans and vulnerable children. The farming centre will create local jobs and build the capability and resilience of subsistence farmers in Patongo, Pader and Agago Districts by offering training, tools, seeds, irrigation technologies and access to finance and market.
