Following the success of the year 1 ARDENT8 programme, we are aiming to launch year 2 with a new group of 8 recent graduates from Colleges of Higher Education. The ARDENT8 project enables actors from outside London and low-income backgrounds a yearlong career support programme in the capital.
It ran from 12:00 PM, 27 November 2018 to 12:00 PM, 4 December 2018
Registered Charity in England and Wales (1161320)
Young working class actors, from outside London, face a disproportionate disadvantage to forging a career in the industry than their London-based or more affluent peers. Some of the barriers they face upon leaving include lack of: finance, professional credits, industry contacts, knowledge about finding work and showcase opportunities. As a result, most give up within 2 years of graduating.
This project goes some way to rebalancing this inequality by giving working class actors from outside London support in achieving their professional aspirations and addressing their identified barriers to entering the industry. Through 7 workshops and 1 business focused day the project improved skills, knowledge, confidence, contacts and endorsement of their abilities to help pursue their careers.
It is so refreshing to come across a theatre company aiming to cut through the wall of privilege and provide an equal opportunity for all regardless of background – this is a project I support.
