Langdon empowers people with learning disabilities to live independently by providing members with opportunities to thrive. We recognise that women with learning disabilities are at increased risk of being overweight. We want to encourage female members to get active to improve health & wellbeing.

Situation
It’s recognised that people with learning disabilities are at increased risk of being overweight compared to the general population, with poor diets & low levels of physical activity. This increases the likelihood of a range of health & social problems. People with learning disabilities may not always be able to enrol on activity programmes as they are not accessible. Langdon run active sessions, but have found that women would feel more likely to participate in ‘girls only’ settings.
Solution
Provide dance sessions that are therapeutic & fun, enabling female members to benefit from: • Better health - getting fit whilst having fun • Moving together improves a sense of belonging & social skills • Moving together with carers strengthens positive relationships • Energetic music & colourful sensory props stimulate senses • Enhanced body and self-awareness • Develop social & cognitive skills • Ignite confidence through new positive experiences • Relax & be mindful
