The cost of academic failure to our society is well documented by UNICEF, HM Prisons Service and the Department for Education. Failure results in lower social mobility, higher crime, unemployment and a fragmented society. The cost per person per year for someone not in education, employment or training (NEET) exceeds our One Degree per student budget 30 times over. Our current programme radius, within the borough of Brent, London, is an area failing to deliver a good standard of education.
Volunteer mentors - regular learning leading up to student GSCE exams, embedding the skills, practice, planning, time-keeping, confidence required. Learning through technology – use of an iPad/tablet per student allowing fun, modern learning. Speakers – inspirational and motivational speakers help give students direction, ambition and aspiration. Sports – a variation of group activities to build bonding among the students and mentors. Food – fun, healthy food enables higher energy levels.
