Location

Situation

Deafblind adults living independently in the community live very isolated and routine lives, often devoid of the the colour, interest and beauty enjoyed by those who are sighted hearing. Deafblind Scotland has been aware for some time of the paucity of their lives and has tried to involve them in mainstream and other opportuinities for enjoying art. Due to the difficulties they endure with communication and mobility it has proved almost impossible to integrate them into artistic activties

Solution

Sensing art wil use tutors who have been trained in deafblind awarenmess or who themeselves have a sensory impairment. We will work with both deafblind people and the tutors to devise a programme of activities which will be both challenging and rewarding, using old trees, scrap metal, clay, and any medium which is particularly tactile in nature. We will provide proferssional communication support to enable fruitful communication for all concerned.
