Act Right Now – save right whales from extinction

We need to save the North Atlantic right whale from extinction. There are fewer than 500 left and their biggest threat is humans. Whaling brought them to the brink of extinction and now their survival is threatened by fishing gear and being hit by ships. We can save them if we act right now.

Situation

There are fewer than 500 North Atlantic right whales left on the planet. 72% of known deaths are caused by humans – they are hit fatally by ships or die slow and painful deaths from horrific injuries inflicted by getting caught up in our fishing gear. There are so few individuals left that every single death is cause for serious alarm. Unless action is taken now, these whales will disappear forever.

Solution

We need funds to continue our work to: - Create safe havens in the places these whales live, feed, breed and migrate. - Ensure shipping speed limits are kept in place in the areas these whales live. - Ensure regulations are put in place to reduce whale entanglements in fishing gear. - Ensure the US government allocates funding for right whale research and protection. - Arm the public with the information they need to help us save these whales from extinction.
