The performing arts are known to enhance the personal, social and emotional development of young people. However, living in the poverty stricken borough of Hackney, these young people have very few opportunities to develop their potential in the performing arts. They are unable to access mainstream provision due to cultural and religious requirements. This greatly effects their personal, social and emotional development resulting in too many young people lacking self-esteem and skills.
Project Discover Your Potential has been created to provide these young people with cost-free weekly skills training in the performing arts so that they can discover and develop their potential. By participating in this project their self-esteem, organisational capacities and teams skills will be enhanced in a culturally appropriate environment that meets each of their specific needs. This will in turn improve their future employment possibilities and contribution to their communities.
