There has always been a strong tradition of Backyard Farming in the East End of London, and this is all but dying out due to lack of green and growing spaces. Access to fresh affordable food and poor diet are commonplace, with our borough having higher than average cases of childhood obesity and diabetes. Coming to the Farm has always been seen as something for young children and not very “hip” for the older ones, we want to encourage more cohesive communities with young and old working together
Young and old people will together use the social media to promote the Farm, what we do and how we can work together. We will video the journey of a group through the seasons of the year culminating in a Film Show and Photo exhibition on all the work that they have achieved. We will showcase that working outdoors, growing food, learning about how to care for animals and people from a variety of backgrounds and social groups can all help boost confidence and self esteem.
I always feel very relaxed and in touch with my community when I visit the Farm
The children have loved this trip and thank you for working with us
We have learnt so much from coming here and being able to enjoy the space together
