Our Summer Project aims to ensure that children recovering from trauma have a safe, fun place to be during the long summer holidays. It gives our children the opportunity to spend their summer holiday outside of home, getting involved in exciting sports such as basketball and tennis.
It ran from 12:00 AM, 11 June 2018 to 5:00 PM, 18 June 2018

We know from talking to our families that summer is a difficult time of year. One mother explains; "Everything is so expensive, I can’t afford to take my son out. One day we went out and I didn’t have enough money on my Oyster card so we had to walk back over an hour to get home.” Most of our children suffer from chronic trauma that has affected their ability to develop emotionally and make friends. The issues they face include bereavement, domestic violence and neglect.
We will provide a safe and friendly place where children enjoy sports, arts and food activities in a nurturing environment. Playing sports and being active will develop their health, communication and social skills. Through cooking activities, they will learn the importance of a healthy diet and eat nutritious food. Arts and crafts will help children express their emotions and thoughts. Our staff and volunteers ensure that children always have a caring, trusted adult close to them.
