Teens Social Stop (TSS)

TSS is a safe haven for young people to spend their time after school. A homework club runs 4 times/week for 2 hours. We target 100 BME young people who are struggling with school work. We also offer healthy food and encourage healthy lifestyles to address worrying childhood obesity levels.

The Homework Club targets young people who are struggling academically, and for whom school is a nightmare. Many of these YP face additional challenges at home, which means they are distracted from doing their homework, getting enough sleep and eating balanced meals. Some YP have caring responsibilities at home, caring for a physically/mentally unwell family member. These YP live in crowded accommodation, with no quiet space to call their own; this makes it impossible for them to do homework.

10 youth leaders will run the project, offering support and guidance, whilst equipping them with learning skills so that they become independent learners. We are committed to creating an upbeat environment, where young people are self-motivated and keen to achieve. The Club will be a fun, safe space for young people, with learning being done in lots of different ways. Learning will be an exciting experience, rather than compulsory tedious work. Young people will also enjoy healthy snacks.
