Situation

London is a powerhouse of fashion but the opportunities within that industry do not present to disadvantaged youth despite them often being the inspiration for the trends the fashion industry gravitates towards. Our project will make a difference to creative young people by giving them technical and personal skills to facilitate their progression. Summer time is the ideal time as they are not in education nor can they afford to go away on holidays.

Solution

We will run a series of creative workshops over the summer months. Maximising educational resources at the V&A museum and at University of East London, disengaged young people will work with FAD staff and volunteers to develop life skills - confidence and self-esteem- and technical skills. The volunteers will be both professionals in the fashion industry and former FAD beneficiaries who will pass on their skills to the young people.
