Situation

Young people with autism are a vulnerable group and often sidelined by society, which has low aspirations of what they can achieve and equally low levels of understanding of their disability. This makes young people with autism a hard to reach group, often difficult to engage with. Less than 1 in 4 young people with autism go on to further education and only 15% of adults are in full time employment, while 90% remain dependent on families or care.

Solution

Our work ensures that children and young people with autism have a voice and access to the right support and services so that they can lead fulfilling lives as active and contributing members of their communities. Through our campaign work we ensure that the needs of children and young people with autism are considered at different stages of policy development.
