Integrated weekly music sessions for adults with learning disabilities. The sessions are immensely important to the 30 adults who currently attend. For them, music is a means of communication and expression, also helping to boost confidence and to learn new skills.

Situation

A need was identified for creative music activities on a regular basis for young and older people who have severe learning difficulties. Musical activities provide a natural source of expression where, very often, words are totally inadequate. The music sessions started in 2003, since then the demand has grown and we currently offer two one-hour weekly sessions during the academic year.

Solution

We will hold weekly music sessions at Caernarfon for 30 adults over the 2017 - 2018 academic year. They will be led by musician Arfon Wyn, with volunteer musicians; which are young talented students of the William Music Centre (CGWM). In addition to the integrated music sessions themselves, 'Hidden Talents' members as a group will accept a number of performance opportunities within the year, such as at CGWM concerts and at community fairs.
