Spitalfields City Farm

Wild Club at the Farm!

Wild Club allows young children aged between 4 - 11years to explore the wonderful world of environmental play. At the Farm they will learn how to cook over an open fire, pick and cook their own food. A lot of the activities will centre around where your food comes from and how to grow veg and fruit.

Situation

In our borough of Tower Hamlets we have one of the highest rates of childhood obesity and lack of green open spaces for children to play and enjoy. Due to the lack of open safe spaces it is harder for communities to come together and share experiences and allow for children to meet with their peers. There is little access to fresh vegetables at affordable prices with many of our users making up a large proportion of those living in poverty. Social cohesion amongst the diverse groups is an issue.

Solution

Wild Club, will allow for not only children but families to come together and share the space in a fun and educational way. It will increase understanding of what to eat for a healthy lifestyle and give access to fresh affordable vegetables and fruit. It will also allow for people to come together in a safe and nurturing environment on the Farm. By providing access to nutritious lunches during school holidays we can ensure that no child will go without a hot healthy meal.
