    Situation

The mental health of young people in the UK is in crisis. Approximately 850,000 children – 3 in every classroom – suffer from a serious mental illness. 24 hour social networking, bullying on and offline, and ever-increasing school stress combine with other pressures to take their toll on the emotional wellbeing of our children. Meanwhile, services continue to be woefully underfunded. Parents tell us they feel embarrassed, ashamed and guilty when their child suffers from mental illness.

    Solution

The YoungMinds Parents Helpline supports over 11,000 families a year. Our team of advisers reassure parents who are concerned about their child’s wellbeing, providing non-judgemental, practical support. We give parents and carers the knowledge and skills they need to improve the mental health of their child. For over 20 years the helpline has been a lifeline for parents who feel they have nowhere else to turn.
