The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity

Counselling rooms for people with cancer

We are building a new specialist cancer hospital in the centre of Liverpool and want to include 9 counselling rooms, helping to provide support for patients and family members in a private/confidential setting, enabling them to explore the difficult aspects of their illness with someone impartial.

Situation

The words ‘you have cancer’ are difficult for anyone to hear, most people will feel great distress, and some will have a feeling of being overwhelmed. People need the chance to explore their feelings and the anxiety that so often comes with cancer. Around 25% of patients need some level of psychological support in the first year of their diagnosis. The reality of living with cancer highlights the challenge of trying to live with uncertainty whilst maintaining hope.

Solution

Purpose built rooms will enable the delivery of specialist support in a private, confidential space, helping both patients and families including children come to terms with what can be a devastating diagnosis. Will provide an oasis for people to share their feelings and prepare for the journey ahead, all in a tranquil area away from a clinical setting, with the ultimate aim of improving their quality of life. Will enable our counselling service to be expanded to all our 3 sites.

  • Each and everyone of your wonderful members of staff have made our nightmarish situation bearable if not, I dare say, enjoyable and fun.

  • Wonderful staff and volunteers here. Everyone smiling today as I passed by them, from the man at the gate, to reception staff, along the corridors and in departments discussing treatment. So blessed to have this wonderful hospital on my doorstep.
