Situation
Our projects challenge the limitations society and indeed family put on disabled children and young people, giving them the confidence to broaden their horizons. There is a risk that the children and young people will lead very sheltered and restricted lives and they want to do something challenging, exciting and fun. And parents/carers need a break now and then as the stress of full-time caring can be overwhelming and lead to family breakdown.
Solution
We will provide five residential projects, for around 116 children and young people age 8 to 25 who have a learning, physical or sensory disability or are disadvantaged in some way, supported by 98 volunteers/carers at two fully accessible outdoor activity centres. There will be a range of exciting and challenging activities in which every child or young person can take part, enabling them to achieve their full potential, explore their horizons and enjoy living, working and playing together.
