Respite Bed Project

Our new Respite Bed Service offers nurse-led support for people who have life-limiting illnesses. The Respite Bed is provided for people so that the person who usually cares for them can have a period of time to themselves, to recharge and recuperate.

Situation

Patients – Some people with a life-limiting illness living in their own home may need some time away from their everyday environment. Looking around at the same four walls may have a negative effect on their health and well-being. Carers – The demands of supporting a person with a life-limiting illness can be challenging; physically, emotionally and financially, with the anxiety of being on hand 24-hours a day.

Solution

Patients - Our Respite Bed Service will support patients for a maximum week’s stay so that they can spend time in a supportive environment with a qualified team of nursing and care staff. Carers - To know that your loved one is being cared for by a qualified team of nurses and carers would be so beneficial. A respite break would mean a carer will have some quality time to do some things they would like to do - a well-earned holiday - ultimately improving their own health and well-being.
