    Situation

The young victims we support are often scared and vulnerable. They have lost their trust in the people closest to them and their faith in the authorities that should be there to protect them. We undertook a consultation in April 2016 with all PCCs asking which had specialist support for young victims of crime. Greater London remains our area of highest demand year on year.

    Solution

Working with children’s services, the wider criminal justice agencies and partners, we are developing services to meet the needs of all those who need help to cope with the effects of the crime, recover and move on to achieve their potential. The community-based Young Victims’ Care Officer will ensure consistency for young victims and their families and for trust to be built up.
