Natural ageing makes us tired but clinical chronic fatigue is different & is a recognised symptom of neurological conditions. Exhaustion & inability to function physically or mentally follows even mild exertion. The effects are mental too; battling constant fatigue can cause depression, & social withdrawal is a coping strategy. Chronic fatigue feels like a life sentence, but effective Fatigue Management can be the difference between dependence & exclusion v independence & inclusion.
Our Fatigue Management programme addresses challenges facing people with neurological conditions by working with them to develop personal routines, incorporating both everyday activities & structured exercise, combining regular periods of rest. It will help them conserve valuable energy, deal with changes in their abilities, maintain/improve memory and remain independent for longer. “Fight Fatigue the NTC Way” will help transform both their own lives, & the lives of their families & loved ones.
“I feel like I’m dragging a tractor tyre around most days and simple things like cooking, cleaning and showering use huge amounts of precious energy. My condition means I have become unreliable as an employee and forced me to give up my career”.
"The NTC is a lifeline & without it I would be isolated, locked inside my condition & without hope. It focuses on helping people like me come to terms with our condition & learn how to adapt & cope. I’m starting to rebuild my life & use my skills whilst managing my fatigue and pain".
“Because of the NTC I’m now managing my condition, using my skills in a different way. I’ve learnt greater acceptance & have shifted my focus to what I CAN do rather than what I can’t. My self-confidence has returned allowing me to look to the future for the first time since I became unwell."
