Homeless migrants have limited access to support services and are vulnerable to exploitation and street homelessness. By funding a Migrant Coordinator and Advisor, we will provide specialist migrant support to prevent devastating limbo-situations, like those of the Windrush generation.

Situation

46% of London’s rough sleepers are non-UK nationals. Despite this, there are limited resources and understanding to support this group. The complexity of a person’s immigration status and the length of time it can take to address this with the Home Office can leave people in limbo for months, even years. Upcoming restrictions on the rights of EEA nationals post-Brexit, are also likely to affect homeless, making them vulnerable to prostitution, trafficking and other forms of exploitation.

Solution

Responding to increasing and complex needs of homeless migrants, we have developed a specialist service delivered by a Migrant Advisor and a Migrant Coordinator. They know who to contact, what to say and have the legal expertise and qualifications needed to provide specialist help, information and advice. The team will ensure that our migrant clients receive the advice and support they so urgently need to move away from homelessness and avoid exploitation.
