YMT offers a bridge for talented young people, from all backgrounds, into adult professional development. We want our top quality music theatre courses, for which we have bursary funds, to be accessible to all, however disadvantaged. That means more auditions (Hull, Stockton) and focussed marketing.

    Situation

    Engagement with YMT offers a transition to adult learning and disciplines and for many is transformational. We recruit talented young people from all over the UK, and from all social and ethnic backgrounds. Our auditions already have a wider geographical spread than similar organisations. But it takes extra effort and resource to inform and attract young people from more disadvantaged backgrounds - achieving both breadth and depth - new areas, new reach - is demanding and costly

    Solution

    Additional funding will (a) enable us to visit new cities with areas of greater need and (b) increase our online visibility and especially amongst the UK fringe communities. It will enable appropriate materials to be prepared and distributed through local channels, including those directed at the less advantaged, and will enable bi-lingual print in Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Finally, it will raise awareness of the availability of (existing) bursary funding for those successful at auditions.
