*Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds have few opportunities to experience outdoor learning *There is evidence that skills such as confidence, resilience, self awareness and motivation are better predictors of success than academic attainment; yet these skills are not taught in schools *By using outdoor learning to develop the life skills of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds we can improve their life chances *This will in turn lead to better social mobility and a fairer society

World class outdoor education at Avon Tyrrell empowers young people to develop their life skills. Our 65 acre site provides an inspiring environment for young people to learn. For many it will be the first time they have explored the countryside. The site is specially equipped to be fully accessible to all so those with physical disabilities can cycle, climb and canoe alongside their friends. Through exploring new things together, young people build lifelong friendships as well as new skills.
