Situation

There is a seasonal rise in incidents of domestic abuse over the Christmas period, and whilst the festivities should be a time for celebration, for those in refuge, it can be particularly difficult. Women and children can experience a rollercoaster of emotions compounded by living in temporary accommodation they don’t identify as ‘home’. Furthermore, many Haven residents are on low/no income and cannot afford to create an authentic Christmas experience for themselves and their children.

Solution

Giving the Gift of Christmas will enable women and children to experience all that Christmas should be. From giving and receiving gifts, to parties and festive activities, to Christmas dinner. The project will help Christmas to be a time for celebration and help bring families together in refuge to make memories and rebuild bonds. This project will ensure we can run the grotto, provide a three-course festive meal in all six refuges, as well as running parties and activities throughout December.
