This project will support secondary school leavers, living in areas characterised by high unemployment rates, extremely high levels of HIV prevalence and poverty. The young people that the project will target have left secondary school with insufficient pass marks to access college and university. They are extremely vulnerable to exploitation as unskilled labour (domestically or as sand harvesters or fire wood collectors), poor sexual health, teenage pregnancy or drug and alcohol abuse.

The ‘Yes’ project will: • Facilitate and co-ordinate a local work experience programme providing work opportunities in schools, community centres, on farms and in local businesses • Deliver careers talks and one to one careers advice sessions and counselling services • Support young people to kick start small local businesses – offering training and access to micro-finance loans. • Support applications by young people to vocational training or re-sitting exams.
