Mental health services are largely unavailable in nomadic communities, due to hostile terrain, and cultural norms and practices. The project aims to give adults and young people the access to mental health services, using treatment, consequent stabilization and then support to earn a living as key routes to recovery.
BasicNeeds works with local partners and builds the capacity of local medical staff to diagnose and treat mental health issues. It also gives people the opportunity to access diagnosis and treatment close to where they live, and provide livelihood training opportunities which helps address their poverty.
