We take medical care to where it is most needed, to vulnerable children/orphans who live in the remote villages of Malawi. In 2017 our mobile clinic treated just over 37,000 sick children. Without prompt access to antimalarials 18% of these children will suffer from long term disability or die.

Situation

Malawi, one of the poorest nations in the world where children still die from illnesses that are easily preventable & treatable. 80% of the population live in remote rural areas, it can take up to 2 days for a sick child to reach a government hospital and even then it is not guaranteed that they will receive treatment as often the pharmacy shelves are empty. Mission hospitals are better equipped but treatment is not free and beyond the pocket of the poor. We serve the underserved.

Solution

The WMF Mobile Health Clinic is a fully equipped 4x4 vehicle stocked with medicines. Our medical team travel to carefully selected remote areas where there is no other access to healthcare to take the desperately needed medical care to the children. We treat malaria and all childhood diseases. Children who require critical in-patient care are transported to the government hospital. We also believe that prevention is better than cure and deliver public health education to the communities.
