Situation

Music has been proven to have significant positive benefits on a child’s learning, social and personal development. However, diminishing in-school arts provision and the price of private lessons are preventing more children than ever from engaging with music. We are tackling this problem through our primary music education work, bringing high-quality musical opportunities to children in some of London’s most socially and economically challenged communities.

Solution

Our award-winning music education programme, LMM Learning, provides primary school pupils with high-quality instrumental tuition. All children are loaned their own instrument (violin or cello) and receive regular lessons in small groups, in addition to a range of fun musical activities and events. We have established a unique track record of working with children who are eligible for free school meals and/or have English as an additional language.

  • There is no greater joy for me than being able to share the gift of music with young people. Seeing their confidence grow; their self esteem heighten; their skills improve and their teamwork flourish is absolutely inspiring! What greater gift could we give our young people?

    — Marin Alsop, conductor

  • I'm so happy to be involved with London Music Masters because the work that I've seen them do is something that I really, really believe in - to see young children really enjoying music and learning their instrument from a very young age, which I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to do.

    — Sheku Kanneh-Mason, cellist

  • What London Music Masters is doing is truly miraculous work.
