The European Union Baroque Orchestra uniquely provides young musicians from all over Europe with the training and experience to embark on careers in baroque music. It acts as a bridge between conservatoire study and professional life; former EUBO members are in every major baroque ensemble.

    Situation

EUBO was founded in 1985 in response to a growing interest in historically informed performances and a consequent demand for musicians. With the continued level of demand for baroque music, EUBO provides the training that is required. EUBO aims to reduce the disparity of opportunity between students in European countries where baroque music performance and education is well developed and those where opportunities to study baroque instruments or attend concerts are small or non-existent.

    Solution

A completely new orchestra will be chosen in 2013 from the most talented young students from all over Europe. 100 candidates will take part in our of the 4-day audition courses and the 22 successful candidates from 12 or more EU countries will be members of the orchestra for 6 months. The audition course, which is a self-contained residential study course, provides a unique experience unobtainable at this level elsewhere in the world; those not selected will gain valuable experience.
