    Situation

It may be relatively small for a capital city but the story of Cardiff is a big one - much too big a story to tell in the 400 sq. m. of our introductory gallery. Our primary users have been identified as older people and families, meaning large numbers of Cardiff's young population are missing out on their heritage. A lack of a dedicated temporary exhibition space means local communities are not able to effectively participate in telling their stories and repeat visits are not readily encouraged

    Solution

The Cardiff Story Museum will explore more of the city's stories in greater depth through cross-cutting themes in the 2nd permanent gallery - Cardiff Communities. We will target the 17-35 yr old groups and BME communities through specially designed exhibits. Phase 2 also includes plans for a cafe (run as a social enterprise with a charity) and temporary exhibition gallery, extending dwell time and increasing opportunity for participation through community co-created temporary exhibitions.
