Our art acquisitions fund enables the Friends of the Harris to support the purchase of works of art for the Harris Museum's collections now and in the future. The fund is a legacy of Preston Guild 2012 when it began as the Friends' chosen project for the year.

    Situation

The Harris is committed to collecting new works of art to enable us to fill gaps in our collections and to exhibit and interpret artworks to inspire our visitors and encourage new visitors. However, at present we do not have an acquisitions fund in place to enable us to do this and to provide matching money for other funders. Currently we are particularly interested in collecting digital media art, twentieth century studio pottery and the Victorian fairy painting, 'Puck', by Richard Dadd.

    Solution

The project will create an acquisitions fund that we can draw upon in future years to enable the Museum to purchase works as they become available. The money will provide 'seed funding' to encourage other large scale and specialist funders to support specific purchases. It will help us to build on our track record of supporting museum acquisitions and to further develop our relationship with members of the public who have supported the Museum and the Friends in the past.
