The key aim of Carn to Cove is to bring high quality professional arts into rural areas where there is very little professional arts activity. The scheme is aimed at everyone in the community and so promotes social inclusion.

    Situation

We are trying to increase the number of young people attending performances. Cornwall is a historically poor county with lower than average income, many scattered rural communities and a large retired population. There is a lack of rural public transport, which makes it difficult for young people to travel to performances in the few urban areas in the evenings, and a small number of choices of venues to watch live performances.

    Solution

We put shows on in local community venues so young people don’t have to travel far. We offer concession and child rate ticket prices, and liaise with local promoters to ensure that our pricing reflects local incomes. We will work with young promoters to engage young people in programming and attending events in their areas. We are partners in the Arts Council’s A Night Less Ordinary scheme and offer an allocation of free tickets to all our shows.
